What we cover, grade by grade
- 1
Grades 8 and 9
Math 8 and Math 9: integers, fractions, ratios, linear relations, and the first proper algebra. This is where confidence is either built or quietly lost, and it is much cheaper to fix here than in Grade 11.

Grade 10
Foundations of Mathematics and Pre-Calculus 10: exponents, polynomials, factoring, linear systems, and right-triangle trigonometry. The factoring fluency built here is what Grade 11 assumes you already have.

Grade 11
Pre-Calculus 11 or Foundations of Mathematics 11. Pre-Calculus 11 brings quadratics in three forms, radicals, rational expressions, and the sine and cosine laws — the year most later gaps trace back to.

Grade 12
Pre-Calculus 12 is the prerequisite most science, engineering and commerce programmes check, covering transformations, logarithms, trigonometry and rational functions. Calculus 12 is optional and is the best preparation available for first-year calculus.

FAQs
My school uses a different pathway name. Is that fine?
Yes. BC schools vary in naming; we work from your outline and the topics you are on now.
Do you work with my parent or only with me?
We follow what you and your family prefer. Many students book directly; we keep communication clear and professional either way.
Which Grade 12 course do I need for university?
Most science, engineering and commerce programmes at UBC and SFU ask for Pre-Calculus 12. Calculus 12 is usually optional — valuable preparation for first-year calculus, but not normally the admission requirement. Check the specific programme, because a few ask for both.
Do you tutor Foundations of Mathematics as well as Pre-Calculus?
Yes. Foundations 11 and 12 are a different pathway with a different emphasis, and we teach them on their own terms rather than as a lighter version of Pre-Calculus.
Is Grade 8 too early for tutoring?
No, and it is often the most efficient time. The algebra introduced in Grades 8 and 9 is what every later course assumes, so a few sessions here usually cost less time than repairing the same gap during a Grade 11 or 12 final.
Are sessions online or in person?
Both. Online sessions work anywhere in British Columbia and are how most high school tutoring runs. In-person sessions are available in the Vancouver and UBC area subject to tutor availability.
